Red Wings defeat Blackhawks in Windy City

Hockey Betting Lines

02/28/2007 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tomas Holmstrom scored a pair of goals to lead Detroit to a 4-1 win over Chicago at the United Center.

Kyle Calder posted a goal and an assist in his debut for the Red Wings, who snapped a two-game slide. Johan Franzen added a goal and an assist, and Pavel Datsyuk collected a pair of helpers.

Dominik Hasek made 24 saves to notch his 33rd win of the season.

Jeff Hamilton netted the lone goal for the Blackhawks, who have lost six of their last seven outings. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 24 shots in a losing effort.

Just 1:46 into the game, Calder scored his 10th of the season and first in a Red Wings uniform. Franzen fed from behind the net to Calder, who was cruising down the right side, and his one-timer found the top-shelf over Khabibulin's shoulder.

Holmstrom made it 2-0 at 12:51 of the second period, netting his 25th marker of the season by shoveling home the rebound of Datsyuk's wraparound chance.

58 seconds remained in the middle stanza when Franzen made it 3-0 before Holmstrom added another midway through the third with Detroit on the power play. Holmstrom slammed home a rebound from right in front after Khabibulin did the splits to deny Niklas Lidstrom from a sharp angle.

Hamilton denied Hasek a shutout on his 14th goal of the season with one minute left in regulation, but the Hawks fell to their long-time rivals for the sixth straight time on home ice.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.

MySportsbook.com Week 1 odds:

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
