Pressel takes 1-shot lead in Arkansas

Golf Betting Lines

09/10/2010 - Rogers, AR (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - It's hard to believe, but Morgan Pressel has gone nearly two years without a victory on the LPGA Tour.

Trying to end that drought, Pressel opened with a five-under 66 Friday to take the first-round lead at the P&G NW Arkansas Championship.

Playing in the morning wave, Pressel posted six birdies and one bogey and her score stood up for a one-shot lead over Yani Tseng, Gloria Park and Na Yeon Choi.

Michelle Wie and Suzann Pettersen led a group of six players who were another shot further back at 68.

Wie is coming off a win two weeks ago at the Canadian Women's Open, her second LPGA title and the last time the tour was in action until Friday.

Despite her length, she failed to make a birdie on any of the par-fives at Pinnacle Country Club, playing the four holes at one-over par with one bogey.

Wie made four birdies over the rest of the course and lamented her poor putting.

"It felt like I could have shot a lot better, but I'm happy with my round," said Wie. "Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a lot more birdies."

Pressel played much of the round with a splinter in her left hand. While she said it didn't affect her swing, the splinter did bother the 22-year-old during her putting routine. She could feel it every time she rested the hand on her left leg.

"It's still there," Pressel said after the round. "I dug at it, I've seen the paramedics, I've seen the physiotherapist, I've begged for people to go and find tweezers and everything and I still haven't been able to dig for it. I can't see it, that's the problem; I can just feel it."

Pressel started the round on No. 10 with a birdie, then picked up two more strokes to shoot a three-under 32 on the back nine. She added a birdie at No. 2, then made her only bogey of the round on the next hole.

She finished the day with back-to-back birdies, making putts inside three feet on her last two holes to finish what she called a "very solid" round.

Pressel is chasing her first LPGA victory since winning at Kapalua on Oct. 19, 2008. It was her second win as a professional after the '07 Kraft Nabisco Championship, where an 18-year-old Pressel became the youngest woman ever to win a major.

"I didn't miss a lot of shots. I gave myself a lot of birdie opportunities and I got a few of them to go in. I made one bogey, and even that was kind of a silly bogey," Pressel said. "I just didn't make any mistakes, didn't put myself in any trouble."

Pressel hasn't gone totally winless since Kapalua.

In May of this year, she captured one of the major championships on the Japan LPGA Tour. She has since climbed to 14th in the world rankings based mostly on top-10s at the LPGA Championship and Women's British Open, both majors, and a runner-up at the lucrative Evian Masters in France. Pressel finished seventh at the Canadian Women's Open.

NOTES: Defending champion Jiyai Shin, the world No. 3, opened with an even-par 71...World No. 1 Ai Miyazato also had a 71, while No. 2 Cristie Kerr shot a 72...61 players were within five shots of Pressel's lead.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.

MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.

Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.

Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.

After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.

Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.

Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.

If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.

Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.

NFL Football Betting Online

In terms of sports wagering, the NFL is "the most popular game in town." The explanation behind that is easy.

It is called the "pointspread."

Many years ago, NFL games, as well as the more popular college games, used straight odds as a vehicle for betting. For example, if the Bears were playing the Giants, and it shaped up as a competitive contest, the Bears might be, say, a 7/5 favorite. If they were playing an also-ran, it might be 10/1. Well, there is a point where a line becomes prohibitive, as far as betting the favorite. And who would waste money betting an underdog that has virtually no chance? Such a setup did not contribute to promoting betting action.

But in modern sports betting, a "pointspread" is used.

A NFL pointspreads are exactly that, a pre-established point difference between the two sides that will, for all intents and purposes, create a handicap that evens things out, and in doing so, produces comparable wagering activity on both sides of that proposition. So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.

In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.

The establishment of the pointspread as the corner stone around which team sports like football can be wagered upon was truly what brought gridiron betting into the stratosphere for online football betting .
